Blayton Elementary Observes “Black History Month” With Visit From Barbara Blayton Richardson
Dr. Barbara Blayton Richardson, daughter of Dr. J. Blaine Blayton, visited Blayton Elementary to talk about her father’s legacy in Williamsburg in observance of Black History Month in February. Dr. Richardson shared how her father had been born in Oklahoma Territory, graduated from medical school and then served as a doctor to the Williamsburg community for over 50 years. She was joined by Colonial Williamsburg storyteller Sylvia Tabb Lee and Dmitri Clawson who taught the students about life for African Americans in Colonial Virginia and also about African storytelling and drumming.
