Indian Music Specialist Burman Conducts Master Class For JHS Students
India native Sandip Burman, a specialist in the performance of music on the tabla, a popular Indian percussion instrument used in Hindustani classical music and in popular and devotional music of the Indian subcontinent, recently presented a master class to Jamestown High School students. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres. Burman’s love and dedication of tabla began at age 6. His performances are marked with spontaneous innovation and tonal purity while delivering complex rhythmic patterns or melody. His has performed as a soloist at the Kennedy Center, First Night – Providence (RI), Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Percussive Arts Society Conference (PASIC) and the Nashville Symphony. |
