Lafayette Computer Design Students Fashion Their Own Timepieces

Introduction to Engineering students of Richard Aadahl at Lafayette High School were recently given eight 36-inch pieces of thin balsa wood and some glue to test their ability to build a tower that would hold varying weights.  Students’ designs were tested with bags of sand; the tower that held the most bags without collapsing was declared the winner.  The design could be no taller than 15 inches, and no wider that eight inches.
