New WJCC Student Advancement Coaches Ready To Help Guide Students

Seven new Student Advancement Coaches who have been specially trained to identify and assist middle and high school students needing some extra attention with making choices, voicing concerns and stretching their imagination are in place and ready to serve students in grades 6-12.

The responsibilities of the Advancement Coaches will include overall student advancement, management, intervention and transition of learners.  The Coaches are members of the school’s leadership team, reporting directly to the principal.  Their focus will be “personalization,” a learning process in which school professionals help students assess their talents and aspirations, plan a pathway toward their own purposes, and work cooperatively with others on challenging tasks while demonstrating their learning against clear standards.
The coaches are, back row, from left:  Nancy Merrill, Toano Middle School; Jennifer Stultz, Hornsby Middle School; Lisa Winfield, Berkeley Middle School; Edward Van Dyke, Berkeley Middle School.  Front row, from left: Virginia Owens, Warhill High School; Archie Jefferson, Lafayette High School; Trisha Farinholt, Jamestown High School.
