BERKELEY MIDDLE SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER

Pat Curd Cynthia Jackson
Media Specialist Assistant

HOURS

The Media Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. during the school year. Students may come to the Media Center to check out books at any time with a pass, and will be scheduled during the year for research projects through their English, history, and science classes.
COMPUTER
USE
In order to use the computers in the library, a student must have a signed copy of the "Acceptable Use Policy" on file. Signing this document signifies that the student and parents understand the rules governing computer and internet use in the WJCC school system and agree to abide by them. Student usage of computers is monitored by the Media Specialist and the Media Assistant.
MISSION
The mission of the Berkeley Middle School Media Center is to provide services to students, teachers, administration, and parents. These services include, but are not limited to, fiction and non-fiction books for checkout, computers for internet and online database research, videos for classroom use, equipment to deliver instruction and the Bulldog News television show.
ACCELERATED
READER

Berkeley Middle School participates in the Accelerated Reader program. This system of incentives and assessments helps a student to improve his or her reading skills and is designed to offer students a wide choice among fiction and non-fiction. Our online catalog, which is accessible from the Media Center, the classrooms, and online at home; identifies any book found as an AR book and gives the reading level and point value. If the book is not part of the AR program, it has no identifying AR in the entry. If you wish to search through AR books only, there is a button marked AR on the tool bar at the top of the online catalog. If you punch the "power" button as well, you can include a subject or genre classification as well (ex. mystery, science fiction and fantasy, etc.).

Home Connect and Accelerated Reader Link
At the above link you will be able to view your child’s progress towards reading goals, view all books your child has read and see the scores for quizzes your child has taken. An added feature is the AR Bookfinder which indicates the titles of books for which quizzes are available. This includes ALL books, not just ones that are in the Berkeley Media Center. You may wish to note whether the interest level on the book in question is LG (for lower grades), MG (for middle grades), or UG (for upper grades-including material for more mature readers). The information at this link is constantly updated.
